Laparoscopic Gastric Banding System
LAP-BANDŽ System
Dr. Antonio Coirin, MD
Morbid obesity is a very serious disease that affects more than 9 million people in America. A person typically diagnosed with this condition usually weighs 100 pounds more than his or her ideal weight. The National Institute of Health reports that morbid obesity increases the risk of life threatening diseases such as hypertension, cancer, and diabetes. Weight loss can improve your health, reduce the risk of future medical conditions, and enhance the quality of life.
Weight-loss surgery has been considered the most drastic measure to lose weight for a long time. Most Bariatric surgeries require intestinal re-routing, cutting, and stapling. The surgeries are extremelly risky, invasive, virtually impossible to reverse, can cause serious malnutrition, and bring high mortality rates. Times have changed and with time has come the LAP-BANDŽ System.
The LAP-BANDŽ System is the only adjustable and reversible weight-loss surgery available in the United States. The LAP-BAND is a restrictive device that wraps around the stomch to limit food consumption. Individuals with the LAP-BAND feel full more quickly, enabling them to eat less and lose weight. There is no intestinal re-routing, stapling, or cutting with the LAP-BAND and is an outpatient procedure. The procedure is usually done in an ambulatory surgery center and is performed laparoscopically. LAP-BAND adjustments are made in the physicians office an only take a moment.
The LAP-BANDŽ System is a fully adjustable silicone band that is placed around the upper stomach to form a gastric pouch and stoma. The band is then conected to the subcutaneous access port by a small tube. To adjust the LAP-BAND, a special needle is used to add or remove saline resulting in inflating or deflating the LAP-BAND.
Dr. Antonio Coirin is a Bariatric Surgeon located in Modesto, California. Dr. Coirin and the Comprehensive Obesity Management Clinic have developed a program specifically for LAP-BAND patients. The Comprehensive Obesity Management Clinic helps patients lose more weight rapidly than one would with just the LAP-BAND, and they also educate patients in nutrition, behavior and physical activity.
