The Importance of Fiber
Consuming high levels of protein and low levels of carbohydrates and fat, while attending one of COMC Programs, it is absolutely necessary to consume fiber as well. Ingesting high amounts of protein can be binding on the digestive system. So in order to stave off constipation and/or diarrhea, consuming two fiber drinks a day will help keep the system in a well-balanced state. Our fiber drinks are truly flavorsome. There is fruit punch and ice tea to choose from. Even our children like them!
How much fiber does one need? The recommended daily intake of fiber is 25 grams a day. You can find fiber in all natural cereals, whole wheat, beans, nuts, and of course fruits and vegetables! However, dietary fiber found only in plant foods does not actually supply any direct energy to your body. But it is important for your energy levels all the same. Fiber helps to slow the digestion process, keeping you full longer. Essentially fiber helps you maintain energy levels so you won’t experience any energy lows.
There are two types of fiber: insoluble and soluble. Insoluble fiber promotes regularity and helps prevent constipation (especially on a high protein weight loss programs, such as New Direction and Outlook). Soluble fiber helps regulate the body use of sugars. Together, both types of fiber slow the stomach’s emptying giving you sustainable energy.
So don’t let energy spikes of processed sugar get you down. Remember, energy from fiber is essential to good health—and an active life!
